Imagine... the day is approaching, and the excitement is building. You're a young child looking forward to your favorite day of the school year, field day! Not knowing all the hard work and moving parts that go into making the day special, you only have pure joy and anticipation for the fun that is to come. Playing games with your friends, working together toward different goals, and getting to be active outside. Truly the best day of the school year for so many.
As an adult, you come to realize the extent of the planning and effort that goes into making the day great! Giving the Edge Foundation founder, Robert Woolley, is passionate about supporting Queen Anne’s County Public Schools and making sure that they have all that they need to put smiles on the kids' faces. This year the foundation was able to support ELEVEN schools in the county with over 200 volunteers. While each school's individual needs varied, the goal always remained the same; bring joy, excitement, and fun to the student’s day. Whether it was planning and running game stations, providing high school and adult volunteers to interact and join in the fun with the younger students, or dropping off donated Chick-Fil-A sandwiches to helpers; smiles were promised and delivered!

In addition to the physical support that Giving the Edge Foundation was able to provide this year for the 10th year in a row, field day shirts were delivered to over 6,000 Queen Anne’s County Public Schools students. The design used for the 2025 shirts was created by Kent Island High School Student, Zoe Mann, with a character counts mindset. While each school and class can choose how they use the shirts, many choose to tie dye or decorate their shirts as a group. The Edge general manager and Character Counts coach, Sarah Seeling said, “It truly is so rewarding to see the kids working together to make the shirts and then wear them on field day.” It also serves as a future reminder of all of the fun that was had on their special day!
Giving the Edge Foundation is grateful to our community partners for allowing us to contribute to the field day fun. As adults we are now rewarded with the smiles of the students as we see the joy and fun we are able to help provide. Looking forward to 2026!
